Battery Storage
FAQs
What batteries do you install?
We are approved to install Givenergy and Libbi by mi-energy Batteries. We will discuss with you the best options for your particular needs and property.

How often do the batteries need replacing?
On average, solar batteries last between 5 to 25 years. Lithium-ion batteries are the most prevalent solar battery type and have a lifespan of up to 15 years. Some factors that impact a solar battery’s longevity are battery type, installation, depth of discharge, cycle life, environment and maintenance.

Can batteries be stored outside?
A battery can be stored outside but it may affect its lifespan. A solar battery stored outside and in the brunt of the elements will deteriorate quicker than a battery in a controlled environment. That doesn’t mean that your battery necessarily has to be stored indoors – although garages are a typical storage area – a sheltered outside area could be fine as well.

What happens to solar power when the batteries are full?
When the battery is full, the solar power will be diverted elsewhere. This could be to a hot water service, or to other appliances. The Green Team can advise on the best solution for you.

Is Battery Storage worth it?
In most cases the answer would be a resounding yes. A 3 bedroom property in West Sussex with a 3.2kW PV solar installation could increase their self-consumption from around 19% to a massive 81%, just by adding a 10kWh battery system. This means they can store an extra 62% of their power

Will I still have power from my Battery in a power cut?
Yes as long as your Battery Storage system has been set up to run in Island Mode or utilise the Emergency Power Supply system.

What size battery do I need?
It can be tricky knowing what size battery you need, because you don’t want to have one too small and find yourself relying on the grid more than you’d planned. However, you also don’t want to spend too much on an oversized battery. As a rough guide a 3 bedroom would need an 8 kilowatt storage battery however we would much rather come out to you for a survey. That way we can assess your individual energy needs and advise you what system is best for you.

Does Battery Storage qualify for tax credit?
Yes, from 1 April 2022 until 31 March 2027, VAT on installing energy-saving materials (ESMs) in residential properties will be 0% in Great Britain.
